THE NEWLY REFURBISHED Union Bar will begin offering snack food in the next month, with suggestions having come in last week on a Union rant board.

Student Activities Officer Jacques Graves and General Secretary Gabriel Hassan collaborated to bring about the forum for suggestions.

“We just wanted to see what would be popular,” Graves said. “Nachos seem to be most popular. We also had a cheese platter suggested—quite sophisticated.”

Bar Manager Mark Johnson told Student Direct: Mancunion that he would be looking keenly at the board and taking some of the suggestions on. He added that there was a lot of random ideas including Scottish delicacy, deep fried Mars bars.

Johnson was unable to give any idea of prices, something that has been an issue for many students. “Last time I bought food in the Union bar–a pizza–they took it out of the freezer right in front me and charged me at least a fiver,” Music student Hector Preston said.

The 20-year-old added: “I’m more likely to go to the Scan Building, the food is much nicer. It’s a much nicer environment. And will probably be better value. It’s always a little awkward on those metallic tables too.”

Manchester student Freddy Gaved added: “I’m actually quite outraged about how bad the whole situation is with food around the whole University. Someone could make an absolute bomb if they opened a nice sandwich shop near the library or Union.”
